Some local scholarships are offered to students living in a certain geographical area, and often for a specific college.

The Posse Foundation actually works in tandem with 28 partner universities to identify and recruit exceptional groups of students from diverse backgrounds. Chosen students are required to attend an 8 month workshop (2 hours per week) to prepare them for the rigors of top-tier schools.

Another notable full-tuition scholarship is the Tom Joyner Foundation Full Ride Scholarship. It is the foundation's most prestigious award and it is given to one freshman per year who enters a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the United States each fall.
